Final Weekend Scenarios
UConn is done with its Big East slate and finished with a 17-4 record in conference play. Xavier has also completed its league schedule, but the remaining six teams have one more weekend to go.
The four schools headed to Mason, Ohio to compete for the Big East Tournament crown at Prasco Park are known, as in some order, Creighton, St. John’s, UConn and Xavier will finish in the top four and play a double-elimination event starting on Wednesday. However, the Bluejays and Red Storm are still playing for seeding, while the Huskies and Musketeers sit and watch to see where they land.
The only series that matter with regard to seeding in the Big East Tournament are Creighton at Georgetown and St. John’s at Butler. However, the teams are virtually locked into their order, as only sweeps will change the current standings.
UConn will finish first unless Creighton sweeps the Hoyas, while Xavier is at third unless the Red Storm do the same to the Bulldogs.

The Huskies dropped its series with Xavier at the end of March, doing so away from home. They also played St. John’s on the road four weeks later and scored 44 runs across the series sweep.
RPI Update
UConn lost RPI points just by taking the field over the weekend against Butler and while a home loss to Northeastern, which could work its way into the hosting discussion if it keeps rolling, is far from the end of the world, the Storrs nine didn’t gain points in the defeat. This puts them at No. 43 in the RPI, an 11-spot drop from when the newsletter was last published.
This weekend’s series against Maine will be solidly Quad 4 and will provide little to no RPI value, even with a sweep. The Huskies will be right around the same spot, assuming three wins, going into the Big East Tournament, which will feature four top-100 teams in a neutral setting. This will be where UConn can get back into the top 40 and toward 30, putting it on more solid at-large footing and higher in the pecking order among 3-seeds, where it would likely be should it earn an NCAA Tournament bid.
Bracketology
Baseball America
UConn continues to hold the Big East’s automatic bid and is projected to head down south to No. 12 Alabama’s Tuscaloosa Regional. The Huskies are joined by 2-seed Wake Forest and 4-seed Fairfield. Xavier is the second team out and Creighton is among the next four out, making the Big East a one-bid league.
No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 8 North Carolina and No. 11 UCLA have appeared on the Huskies’ schedule, as has 2-seeds Duke and Northeastern, 3-seed USC and 4-seeds Bryant and Rhode Island, all in single games. UConn also took a series from 2-seed Miami (FL).
D1Baseball
D1Baseball.com is in line with its counterparts on the Big East’s tournament situation, with UConn in the field and Xavier and Creighton just out, though the Musketeers sit as the first team out in this projection. The Huskies are in line to go to the Raleigh Regional, hosted by No. 15 NC State. Florida and High Point would fill out the field.
UConn faced hosts No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 North Carolina and No. 11 UCLA in single games, with a 2-1 record. Duke and Northeastern (2-seeds), Stetson and USC (3-seeds) and Bryant and Rhode Island (4-seeds) were on the Huskies’ schedule, as was 2-seed Miami (FL) for a weekend.
